This new album by Seventh Day Slumber is a new retake on their melodic hard rock sound with powerful vocals. It's been two years since their freshman release, but SDS has certainly improved their sound, written some good material, and is prepped for the summer concert festival season once again.
Frontman and lead vocalist Joseph Rojas has a powerful and amazing personal testimony, coming from his own experience with depression, a tragic family life, and a severe cocaine habit. From the early teen years, Rojas was inundated with trials and setbacks as he tried to find peace and lasting happiness as a major drug dealer/distributor. Suicide was a constant thought, a way out, an escape from the life he has been "dealt".
Rojas' powerful testimony pours through the music and lyrics of this new album. The boys in SDS are back in new form with a more polished and refined sound, and an arsenal of great new songs to work with. Ten tracks make up the new album, and most of the topics discusses are very personal and intimate with the band members as each have contributed to the lyric content of the music.
Overall, a wonderful album with some really great songs. The power and intensity with which Rojas can sing screaming vocals on pitch and in harmony will chill you at some points. Songs range from all out hard rock to a few acoustic ballads, and certainly there is something on this album to please even the most discerning listener.
