Based on Tony Castle's own experiences of visiting development projects in Bangladesh, these sixteen assembly outlines for juniors form a companion volume to the secondary school resource Meeting Special People.
Stories of child trafficking, slave labour and extreme poverty will move, shock and disturb but are handled sensitively, allowing for the age of the pupils. The second section of this book contains extra resource material for each assembly, providing useful background reading for the teacher. In addition, there are suggestions for action, moving the children on from being mere listeners to being involved - giving a 'hand-up' to children and adults in the developing world.
The sixteen assemblies are:
- Hand-up
- Bike hands
- Bound hands
- Child's hands
- Clenched hands
- Community hands
- Dirty hands
- Distressed hands
- Excluding hands
- Greeting hands
- Praying hands
- Sewing hands
- Skilled hands
- Unique hands
- Begging hands
- Working hands
